I live in America, and want to travel to Canada by road or by air. What do I need?
Killer Chick asked:
And what questions do I answer at the US/Canadian border or at the airport?

When I went, I only had my birth certificate and driver’s license. But this was in 2000, so the rules have probably changed.

Right now all you need is your drivers license or birth certificate. Next year you will be required to have a passport.

I’m from New York State and travel to Canada often since it’s only a 2 hour drive from my house to Niagara Falls. Since you are an American citizen, just bring your birth certificate and a driver’s license OR a valid passport. Go via road because it’s cheaper and you get to see more of the area.
Best wishes for happy travel!

I drove to Canada last November and all I needed was a photo id. I called AAA to ask them if a passport was required and they told me that it would not be required until December 2006. I would call them just to be sure, and they could tell you if any other documents are required. 1-800-JOIN-AAA.

For travel to Canada by road, Canadian immigration officers are usually not too picky but sometimes ask you for proof of American Citizenship like a passport or a birth certificate.
More important is re-entry back to USA for which you would need a birth certificate or passport for sure. Drivers license is not enough proof anymore so you could be denied re-entry if the immigration officer doubts your status and you do not have sufficient proof.

You need to sew an American flag onto your backpack.
